BIOGRAPHY

Julia O’Hara Stiles was born on March 28, 1981 in New York City, USA. Since she was little she took modern dance courses and at age 11 she debuted as a child actress in the theater, although her first professional jobs were in television commercials. She studied at the New York Professional Children’s School and at the age of 15 she debuted in She Loves Me, She Doesn’t Love Me (1996). The following year she participated in The Devil’s Shadow and Alas Cortadas , both released the same year. Two years later she starred in the romantic comedy 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), alongside Heath Ledger. Thanks to her role as Kat, she won the Chicago Film Critics Award, which would mark the first award in the actress’s career. 10 Things I Hate About You is considered a comedy classic, in addition to being one of Heath Ledger’s best performances on the big screen. This drama gained popularity around the world for the two young actors, whose careers would separate and they would never meet again. Julia participated in many other films until 2000 when she temporarily interrupted her career to study at Columbia University. She returned to the stage in David Mamet’s Oleanna in London, a role she reprized on Broadway in 2009. After returning to the world of acting, Julia was signed to appear in Mona Lisa’s Smile (2003), alongside Julia Roberts and Kirsten Dunst, which reignited her career. That same year she landed a significant role in Carolina (2003). Although Stiles enjoyed tremendous success in the 90s, the new century was not an easy obstacle to overcome, however, when she joined the cast of the series Dexter (2006), her talent was appreciated again and she was nominated for a Globe. Gold and Emmy for Best Supporting Actress. Thanks to Dexter she was cast in more mature roles in Between Us (2012) and The Destiny Games (2012), alongside Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. She continued her career with the series Blue (2012) and some of her latest works include the films Trouble (2017), The Drowning (2016) and the series Riviera (2017). In 2019 she participated in Hutlers , alongside JLo.
