BIOGRAPHY
In 2008, while responding to a casting ad looking for someone who could do well at tennis, Jonas Bloquet found himself headlining Étudiant libre, alongside Jonathan Zaccaï. Joachim Lafosse’s feature film forces him to overcome his modesty in order to play a teenager who will benefit from a rather crude sex education. His performance earned him a nomination for Most Promising Actor at the Magritte du cinéma.
Passionate about directing, the young man trained in directing at the Cité du cinéma in Saint-Denis and refined his acting at the Cours Eva Saint-Paul in Paris. This was followed by multiple short films, appearances in R.I.S., A TORT OU À RAISON or Enquêtes réservées, and a few experiences on stage in the theatre. At only 22 years old, Jonas Bloquet directed his first short film, Tale About Me.
On the big screen, the young actor starred in Guillaume Brac’s Tonnerre in 2013. Luc Besson then hired him for his Malavita, with Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer, and called on him again for the thriller 3 Days to Kill starring Kevin Costner. On this note, Paul Verhoeven is counting on him to play Isabelle Huppert’s son in the sulphurous Elle, which won two César awards. The role earned him a nomination in the Most Promising Actor category at the 42nd César Awards.
After a brief appearance in Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Jonas Bloquet was directed in 2018 in the horror film The Nun, starring Demián Bichir and Taissa Farmiga. Subsequently, he starred opposite Lily-Rose Depp in Les fauves, and Sara Forestier in Filles de joie. Viewers of France 2 discover him during the fall of 2021 in Germinal, the mini-series based on the work of Emile Zola. Directed by David Hourrègue, this Franco-Italian co-production with Louis Peres, Guillaume De Tonquédec and Alix Poisson, takes the audience into the difficult daily life of miners in the North of France. He plays the fiery Antoine Chaval, who woos the eldest Maheu, Catherine (Rose-Marie Perreault).
In 2022, Jonas Bloquet is in the cast of 1899, the ambitious new series from the creators of Dark developed for Netflix, which follows the epic journey of passengers on a ship en route to the new world.
