Joseph Robert Theismann, a former American Football player, sports commentator, corporate speaker, restaurateur, and occasional actor, was born on 9 September 1949 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA. His mother Olga Tobias was of Hungarian descent, and his father, Joseph John Theismann, was of Austrian descent. He gained prominence as the quarterback for the Washington Redskins in the National Football League (NFL).

Instead, he signed a contract with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League and spent three seasons with the team.

In 1974, Theismann signed with the Washington Redskins. He broke several team records during his time with the Redskins and won numerous awards and accolades. His career ended in 1985 due to a leg fracture suffered during a game against the New York Giants.
