BIOGRAPHY
Active since the late 1970s, James Spader is a multi-award-winning American actor known for his performance in the series The Blacklist . Because his parents are school teachers, Spader had the best education until shortly before entering college he decided to study acting. To achieve a bit of economic stability, before becoming an actor, he had all kinds of jobs: from yoga instructor to waiter. However, he soon after ventured into the industry with the comedy film Team-Mate (1978). His first participations in film and television were with occasional or secondary characters, but it would not be until Sex, Lies and Video (1989) by Steven Sodenbergh that James obtained his first awards and nominations at different festivals around the world: one of these for best actor in the 1989 Cannes Festival. From his vast resume it is worth highlighting the productions: Crash: Strange Pleasures (1996) by David Cronenberg, nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Festival and winner of the special jury prize there; the series The Practice (1997-2004), a lawyer drama where Spader appeared for more than 20 episodes; Boston Legal (2004-2008) starring him and for which he obtained several nominations in many television awards such as the Golden Globes, the Emmys or the Screen Actors Guild Awards. James also participated in the legendary The Office (2005-2013) in its American version for which he was also nominated along with the entire team of actors for best cast in a comedy series. Shortly after, he appeared in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln (2012), which won, among many other things, two Oscars in 2013. His most recent film was Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) where he gave life to the film’s villain, Ultron. . The most successful role of his career to date is Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington, the villain and protagonist of the crime and mystery series The Blacklist (2013-2019), which has been a success since its premiere
