Ifield returned to the UK in November 1959 after residing in Australia, and his cover versions of "I Remember You" (May 1962), "Lovesick Blues" (December), "The Wayward Wind" (March 1963), and "Confessin' That I Love You" (March 1963) all reached number one on the UK Singles Chart (September). Ifield was inducted into the Australian Roll of Honour in 2003. At the 2007 ARIA Music Awards, Ifield was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. He got pneumonia in 1986, which led to the removal of a portion of his lung and damage to his vocal cords. He moved to Sydney in 1988 and spent years recovering, unable to sing or yodel. He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in June 2009 for "service to the arts as an entertainer." He was initially married to Gillian Bowden, with whom he had two daughters, from 1965 to 1988. Carole Wood was his second wife (1992–present).
