After receiving a COVID-19 diagnosis, it was reported on November 17, 2020, that Boaz would temporarily step down from the part of Chance. Until Boaz is able to return to the show, actor Justin Gaston, the real-life husband of Melissa Ordway (Abby), will temporarily fill the position. The first episode of Gaston will air the week of November 23. Due to financial difficulties, Boaz was fired from Y&R on January 31, 2021, and his final air date is February 1. It was revealed that Connor Floyd, a daytime rookie, had been hired as a recast Chance on November 10, 2021.

Actor John Driscoll played the part from 2009 until 2011. Donny Boaz, an actor, was cast in part in 2019 and left it in February 2021. Male models for companies like Abercrombie, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and runway work in Milan, Italy, marked the beginning of Donny Boaz's career. But just before his junior year at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, a Calvin Klein underwear shot cost him his academic scholarship since the institution didn't think modeling men's underwear was sufficiently "Christ-like." Boaz spent the following six years working as a model overseas after losing his scholarship.
