You could use a utility called Ghost Explorer ( ). It can mount a drive and copy files from it in read only mode. No need for booting from CD as is required with chntpw .

If you want, double-click on this value and change its data type to REG_BINARY (turns out that REG_DWORD doesn’t work). If you try editing your user profile using different Web browsers then you’ll see that all User ID -s are filled by the same one (or something nearly unique). One of these IDs has to be your own.
