Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara, born on July 5, 1956, is a Paraguayan businessman and the president of Paraguay since August 15, 2013, following his election in the April 2013 elections. He is affiliated with the Colorado Party. Cartes is the owner of approximately two dozen businesses in the Grupo Cartes conglomerate, with interests in tobacco, soft drinks, meat production, and banking. Previously, he served as the president of Club Libertad football club from 2001 to 2012 and was also the president of the national team department of the Paraguayan Football Association during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification.
