A teenager will face court after a social media post triggered fears an Adelaide school was at risk of becoming the location of a shooting.
Police received a report on Sunday that a post had been made on social media which included a picture of a firearm and threatening words.
The image was circulated on Snapchat with the caption: “Shooting Playford up”.
“Don’t think I’m gonna go to school tomorrow.
“Damn at first it was crack now a gun.”
A police spokesman told The Advertiser they did not have “immediate concerns” for anybody attending Playford International College, but stationed officers at the school’s grounds.
Following an investigation, detectives spoke to the alleged author of the social media post.
The 14-year-old’s home was searched where police say they located and seized a gel blaster.
He was reported for creating a false belief and possessing a firearm without a licence and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
SA Department for Education chief executive Martin Westwell said the Department and Playford International College are aware of the snapchat post.
“They are working with police to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students,” he said.
“Police have advised that they have no immediate concerns about anyone attending Playford International College.
“The school principal and leadership will be working closely with a range of support services to ensure the wellbeing of the student and wider school community.”
