Cade’s father, Gary McNamara, was a standout center fielder for Fresno State in 1992 and 1993. Following his college career, Gary transitioned to coaching, spending six seasons at the University of Nevada, Reno. He also held prominent roles as head baseball coach at various local high schools.
An Initial Preference for Baseball
Despite Gary’s extensive baseball background, he initially encouraged Cade to pursue baseball, citing his limited understanding of football. Cade began in baseball, excelling as an infielder and pitcher. However, his focus shifted to football after his freshman year of high school, leading his father to express his disappointment by stepping away from coaching.
“Brutal,” Gary described the experience. “I stopped coaching after that season.”
