A residence just steps from Buckley Falls and the Barwon River is now home to a local couple ready to upsize.
The four-bedroom abode at 85 Rivergum Dr, Highton sold for $1.55m under the hammer on Saturday, $100,000 above the top end of its $1.35m-$1.45m price hopes.
McGrath Geelong Newtown principal David Cortous said the robust home was an “absolute showstopper” from its gorgeous facade to the striking interiors.

“It’s got beautiful ironbark proper timber all in the front right through the rest of this home,” Mr Cortous said.
“Very uncommon in today’s market because most of the properties these days use a cheaper style of board, but not here.
“Ironbark is the hardest timber you can buy and it is sitting in that property there; it does not dint, it does not scratch.”
He added that the location of the dwelling was “premium Highton”.
“Right down the road there’s the beautiful Buckley Falls, enjoy that it has to offer down there,” he said.
“Straight over the little skinny bridge and in about 20 minutes you’re on the doorstep of Newtown.”
Three bidders competed for the sprawling property, which sits on 1030sq m, with one keen bidder starting the auction off with an offer of $1.4m.
From there, two bidders went head to head with offers rising up until $1.48m when a third bidder entered the race at $1.5m.
All three bidders were still in the game up until $1.525m when the newest entrant offered $1.55m which won them the new home.
One of the parents of the buyers said the new owners had a property in the area and were simply looking for a new place to call home.
Spotted gum flooring and double-glazed windows line the home, while a solar energy system keeps the residence sustainable.
The open-plan living space offers a generous amount of natural light, while the kitchen has an island bench, walk-in pantry and secondary bench for extra space.
