Fishing season is officially underway at Pyramid Lake, with enthusiastic anglers showing up to see what they can hook.
The season officially opened on Sunday, October 1st.
The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe has designated the beaches from Popcorn to Monument Rock as open to the public for recreational activities including fishing, boating, camping and day use.
The beaches on the south and east sides of the Pyramid Lake remain closed to the public, including Dago and Howard’s beaches, the Needles and the Willows.
Anyone wanting to get a permit can do so at this website, or by stopping by the ranger station on Lakeview Drive in Sutcliffe next to the marina from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Seasonal permits are not available, according to a release from the Pyramid lake Paiute Tribe.
Anyone bringing a boat to the lake will need to have it inspected at the tribe's Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination Station in Sutcliffe at the junction of Sutcliffe Drive and State Route 445.
It is mandatory for all watercraft to stop when the WID Station is open.
Anyone found that is not in compliance with the inspection process or launches potentially contaminated with aquatic invasive species may be subject to a fine for unlawful acts up to $5,000.
Officials also stress the importance of boating safety once on the lake.
