Faith Renée Evans was born in Lakeland, Florida on June 10 , 1973. Her mother, Helen Evans, was an African-American singer while her father, Richard Swain, was a Caucasian musician. Unfortunately, he left Faith and her mother when she was very young and therefore she never met him.

Faith spent her formative years in foster care with parents Orvelt Kennedy and his wife Johnnie Mae, who also happened to be her mother’s cousins. Faith’s mother was 19 when she had to return to Newark, New Jersey, and chose to leave her daughter in a foster home with over 100 children. When Helen finally returned for her daughter, the singer had already grown so emotionally attached to Orvelt and Johnnie that she actually saw them as her grandparents. The budding star refused to leave her comfort zone and as a result, her mother had to move in next door.

Growing up in a Christian environment brought the rising star closer to the church. At two years old, she performed for the first time in front of the congregation of her church. At the age of four, she was already popular among the parishioners of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, located in Newark.

During her teenage years, she began performing with a jazz band and her mother encouraged her to participate in several competitions, festivals and pageants. Faith was to study marketing at Fordham University in New York but dropped out after a year due to an unplanned pregnancy. She worked for a time as a singer for Al B. Sure!, in Los Angeles, where she had moved in 1993. Sean “Suff” Puff Daddy “Combs of the label Bad Boy Entertainment was impressed by her talent and decided to signing as her label’s first female artist.

In 2010, after a five-year hiatus, the rising star launched his own label, the Prolific Music Group. With the help of top talent such as Raekwon, Keyshia Cole, Snoop Dogg and Redman, Faith Evans built her record label to its current glory.

The first lady of the Bad Boy Entertainment label has been married twice in her life. His first marriage was to the late rapper Biggie Smalls, better known as Notorious BIG The couple met at Bad Boy’s photo shoot and, after eight days of courtship, they married on August 4, 1994 On October 29, 1996, their marriage was blessed with a son named Christopher Jordan Wallace. Due to BIG’s infidelity, their marriage fell apart and they broke up after a few years. Shortly after, the rapper was shot following the hip-hop rivalry between East Coast and West Coast during the rap era.

At the time of her death, she was already dating Todd Russaw after his split from Biggie. Todd worked as a record company executive. Faith was then conceived for Russaw and their first son, Joshua, was born on June 8, 1998. The couple married the same year and had their second son, Ryder Evan Russaw, on March 22, 2007, but unfortunately the two divorced in 2011.

It should be noted that before meeting Russaw, Faith had a daughter – Chyna – due to her relationship with producer Kiyamma Griffin.
