Edmund Irvine’s Biography
Edmund “Eddie” Irvine, Jr. was born on 10 November 1965 and is a former racing driver from Northern Ireland. He was born and raised in Conlig, County Down. His parents, Edmund Sr and his sister Sonia, were also involved in motor racing. His professional racing career began in 1983, and he later progressed to Formula Three racing in 1988 before moving on to Formula 3000 in 1989. Irvine’s breakthrough came when he started racing for Jordan in the Formula 3000 series in 1990, and was subsequently picked up by the Jordan Formula One team in 1993. His reputation grew steadily in Formula One, eventually leading Ferrari to sign him to partner with Michael Schumacher in 1996. His most successful season was 1999, during which he won four races and finished as runner-up to McLaren driver Mika Häkkinen in the Drivers’ Championship. He left Ferrari the following year to join the new Jaguar Racing team and was the only driver to secure podium finishes for Jaguar during their short F1 history, achieving this feat twice.
On 9 January 2014, Irvine was found guilty of “mutual injury” following a brawl in a Milan nightclub and was sentenced to six months in prison.
