Derrius Guice is one who runs back to bat In the National Football League (NFL), he has been described as having a strong running style that allows him to give competing players a tough time on the field. In fact, Derrius was best described as “angry” in his position as Washington Redskins running back. Find out more about him below, specifically how he survived his troubled childhood.

Derrius Guice Bio

Derrius Guice had a difficult childhood but turned to football to find some peace. He was born on June 21, 1997 in a poverty-stricken neighborhood of Baton Rouge. On May 3, 2003, he lost his father. The loss of his father pushed the young child further into football as he focused his energies into the game to escape the pain of his loss.

All his hard work paid off when Guice earned a scholarship to a school called Catholic High. The scholarship may have been a blessing, but Guice didn’t have a good time at the Catholic high school – he and his friends were exposed to racism at the predominantly white school.

In difficult times, sometimes all we need is a steady hand to guide us and make us feel safe. For Guice, that hand was that of Stephanie de la Houssaye. Houssayes, who served as a counselor and counselor at Catholic High, had a similar childhood, taking Guice and mentoring him. Their relationship began after another altercation at Guice’s apartment knocked him unconscious. The relationship withstood threats from authorities and students alike, and in the end it helped Derrius Guice rise above his background.

The relationship combined with a determination of using football as a way out of poverty has seen Guice put on impressive performances in his senior year. He played in the US Army All American Bowl and won the Pete Dawkins Trophy for solid performance in the tournament.

He was subsequently rated by Rivals.com as a five-star recruit and second-best high school return. Guice therefore received some offers from some college programs from which he chose to go to Louisiana State University to fulfill a promise he had made to his father before his untimely death.

Guice’s performances for LSU continued the drive that earned him a scholarship and propelled him to a five-star recruit. Although he spent most of his freshman year at LSU as a substitute, he played all 12 games. He started his first game of his sophomore season after Leonard Fournette, the first running back pick, suffered an injury.

Guice’s performances as a throwback to Fournette’s absence, he became a member of the Associated Press All-SEC team at the end of regulation time. It was this string of impressive performances that saw him set new records, such as the school’s single-game rushing record of 285 yards. Before he was drafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, Guice finished his college supervisor with a record 3,074 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns.

Despite a minor setback due to rumor and controversy, Guice was picked by the Washington Redskins in the second round as the 59th pick. On May 10, 2018, he signed a four-year contract with the Redskins. Derrius Guice failed to make a professional debut in his rookie season when he tore his ACL in a preseason game against the RedSkins.

Family – mother, brother

The NFL star was born to Beulah and Derrick Guice. Derrius lost his father when he was only seven years old after a gunman shot him dead in a restaurant. He and his brother, Derrick Guice, were subsequently single-handedly raised by their mother. Derrius had many problems growing up, but his brother had it even worse. In fact, Derrick Guice has had many troubles with the law to date.

Is he gay?

Derrius Guice sparked an NFL investigation in 2018 when he mentioned in an interview that as an NFL nominee he had been asked if he was gay or if his mother was selling herself. The player claimed the questions were asked to gauge his reaction, and a huge backlash prompted the NFL to launch an investigation into the claims. Aside from those comments, however, there doesn’t appear to be any connection between the running back and the LGBTQ community.
