Deontay Wilder Honored with a Statue in His Hometown


Former heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder has been commemorated in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, US, his native hometown.

The unveiling ceremony of his statue took place in front of the Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports offices. Wilder, accompanied by family and boxing fans, was emotional as he uncovered the statue, expressing his gratitude and calling it “generational wealth, black excellence, greatness”.

Designed by Caleb O’Connor, the statue represents the pugilist’s glory during his reign as the World Boxing Council heavyweight champion.

Wilder, who won the heavyweight title in 2015 and defended it 10 times, made a significant impact in the boxing world before facing defeats against Tyson Fury in 2020 and 2022.

A video posted on Instagram by Wilder revealed his heartfelt reaction to the unveiling ceremony, capturing the emotional moment when he beheld the statue for the first time.
