Born on June 7, 1967, to James Raul Navarro and Constance Colleen Hopkins, he has become a defining figure in American culture, even though he is of Mexican descent. He was born in Santa Monica, California. As a child, he had a fairly normal childhood, attending Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, where he developed a passion for music and instruments, joined the school marching band, and played with future Jane’s Addiction bandmate Stephen Perkins.
Navarro’s quiet life took a tragic turn in 1983 when his mother, Constance was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, John Riccardi. Losing your mother to violence is a difficult place to be.
