Danny Trejo is an American actor with several Hollywood movies to his credit. Probably due to his distinctive appearance, he is known for playing the role of antagonist, villain, or antihero. Daniel Trejo was born on May 16, 1944 in Maywood.Los Angeles, California to Alice Rivera and Dan Trejo. His parents are from Mexico. He is actually the first cousin of Mexican-American filmmaker Robert Rodriguez. However, they only realized this while working on the 1995 Western action film Desperado.
Trejo’s father worked as a construction worker and before his acting career, young Trejo also worked as a labor foreman. Growing up, Danny Trejo had a lot of problems that landed him in jail several times. His physical appearance didn’t help either, it got him in a lot more trouble.
During one of his stints in prison, Trejo won the lightweight and welterweight boxing divisions at San Quentin State Prison. He also graduated while at San Quentin. He was eventually able to reduce his drug addiction and continued to work as a youth addiction counselor.
Danny Trejo’s first gig was featured as an extra in the 1985 thriller Out of Control Train. Coincidentally, he was recognized by filmscreenwriter Edward Bunker whom he had met during one of his stints in prison. Bunker, remembering Trejo’s boxing skills, hired him as an on-set trainer for one of the film’s stars.
From 1985 to 1990, Trejo appeared in dozens of B-movies about criminals and convicts. Danny Trejo has become known for playing the bad guy, either as a criminal or a little man, but he also has a few “good guy” roles under his belt. Danny Trejo starred as Machete in the adventure film series Spy Kids, created by his frequent collaborator Robert Rodriguez. The Spy Kids franchise includes the films Spy Kids (2001), Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams (2002), Spy Kids 3-D: Endgame (2003), and Spy Kids: All the Time Around the World (2011). Machete’s character was expanded into a series of films including Machete (2010) and its 2013 sequel Machete Kills, with Trejo retaining the lead role of Machete.
Danny Trejo has appeared on TV shows such as Breaking Bad, The X-Files, and Sons of Anarchy. Trejo also lent his voice to the character Rico in the 2009 animated comedy horror film The Haunted World of El Superbeasto.
