The Danish royal family has publicly addressed the alleged affair between Crown Prince Frederik and Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova, despite being married to Princess Mary from Australia. A week after Spanish magazine Lecturas released photos of Frederik and Casanova at a night out in Madrid, the royal family stated to Danish publication B.T that they ‘do not comment on rumours or insinuations.’
The couple, Frederik and Mary, have abstained from making any statements about the supposed affair. According to Lecturas, the pair visited a Pablo Picasso exhibition, strolled through El Retiro Park, and dined together during their night out. They were reported to have changed into evening wear before emerging from an apartment building separately but later getting into the same white car.
The magazine claimed that they attended a flamenco performance at a Spanish restaurant and did not leave until around 1 am, after which the Crown Prince accompanied Casanova to the airport the following day.
In response to the publication of the photos, Casanova labeled the rumors of an affair as false and misleading, threatening legal action against the magazine. A communication expert suggested that the palace did not seem troubled by the rumors.
This alleged affair follows upheaval within the Danish royal family, with recent controversial decisions including the Queen’s removal of titles from several family members and the withdrawal of Prince Christian from the elite Herlufsholm Boarding School following abuse allegations featured in a documentary.
