BIOGRAPHY
Cybill Shepherd is the second of three children: her older sister is Terry and her younger brother is William. While in high school, she won the title of “Miss Teenage Memphis” and then represented her hometown in the 1966 “Miss Teenage America” pageant. Two years later, she was elected “Model of the Year” .
It was his current companion, a certain Peter Bogdanovich , a brilliant young director, who offered Cybill his first role in The Last Session in 1972. This cult drama, led by Timothy Bottoms and Jeff Bridges , follows two teenagers discovering cinema , music, football and girls in their village.
Building on this success, Cybill Shepherd appeared in two other films by the director: Daisy Miller (1974) and Finally Love (1975), without returning to success. In 1976, she was chosen by Martin Scorsese to play Betsy, a senator’s assistant much like Robert De Niro ‘s character , in Taxi Driver .
She is seen in Special Delivery , Banco in Las Vegas and A Woman Vanishes . Favoring the small screen, she found an important role in the series The Yellow Rose and especially Clair de Lune , where she opposite a very young Bruce Willis . Then, she reunited with Peter Bogdanovich for the drama Texasville in 1990.
In the 1990s, Cybill Shepherd starred for Woody Allen in Alice and appeared in little-known films like Married to It , Bank for a Crime , The Last Word and The Muse . She also plays a second-rate actress who tries by all means to relaunch her career in Hollywood in the series Cybill .
From the 2000s, the actress alternated between little-known films ( The Choice of Love , The Ambition of a Woman , Open Window , A Second Life ) and more or less important performances in series. Among the latter, we can cite The L Word , where she plays Phyllis Kroll, ex-wife of Leonard and mother of Molly.
Multiplying the forays in series like Eastwick , No Ordinary Family , Hot in Cleveland and Involuntary Investigator , Cybill plays the mother of Jennifer Love Hewitt in The Client List. On the feature film side, the Memphis native is starring in Bogdanovich’s Broadway Therapy (2013) and Love Stories (2020).
