In an impressive display of resilience, a 10-man Chelsea clinched a 3-2 home victory over Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Blues surged to a 2-0 lead in the first half, courtesy of goals from Enzo Fernandez and defender Levi Colwill. Despite Brighton’s response with a goal from Facundo Buonanotte, Chelsea maintained their lead.
The challenge for Chelsea intensified when captain Conor Gallagher was shown a red card for persistent fouling. Nevertheless, Fernandez converted a penalty, awarded after Mykhailo Mudryk’s theatrics, to further extend Chelsea’s lead to 3-1.
Brighton made it a tense finale as Joao Pedro scored from a late corner. Despite also losing Reece James earlier, Chelsea managed to hold on.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino will be pleased with the determined performance, which elevates Chelsea to 10th place, ahead of Brentford. Meanwhile, Brighton has faced challenges following their European achievements.
Next up, Chelsea will face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday as they continue to progress under Pochettino’s leadership. Brighton will shift their focus to their Premier League survival as they host Brentford at home on Wednesday.
