Chelsea sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester City in a £70m transfer


Chelsea have finalized the acquisition of Wesley Fofana from Leicester City for a sum of £70 million.

The French footballer has committed to a seven-year contract with the west London club, fulfilling Thomas Tuchel’s pursuit of a defensive reinforcement.

Fofana expressed his delight at joining Stamford Bridge, labeling it a ‘dream’ and expressing eagerness to play alongside his new teammates.

He conveyed his excitement to start playing for the fans and the club, stating on the official website: ‘The past two days have been momentous for me, and I’m extremely pleased. I trained with the team this morning, and it’s a dream come true for me. I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch and competing for the fans and the club.’

‘I’m here to win trophies – the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, everything. I came here to win, and the club’s ethos is centered around winning trophies, so I’m here to contribute to that.’

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly expressed his joy at bolstering the club’s defensive options, stating: ‘Wesley is a highly promising defender who has already showcased his quality in the Premier League at a young age.

‘We are thrilled to have secured the services of one of Europe’s most promising talents for Chelsea, further enhancing our squad in that area, both for the current season and beyond.’

With his arrival, the Francis under 21 international is the sixth summer signing for Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, following Gabriel Slonina, Carney Chukwuemeka, Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling, and Marc Cucurella.
