Carla Bruni, Former French First Lady, Likens Meghan Markle to Yoko Ono in Royal Family

Carla Bruni, the former French First Lady, recently took to Instagram to draw a comparison between Meghan Markle and Yoko Ono, referring to Markle as the Yoko Ono of the Royals.

She shared a manipulated image from the engagement photo shoot of Prince Harry and Meghan, in which she replaced Meghan with a picture of Yoko.

The edited image, which she shared with her 750,000 followers, featured lyrics from The Beatles’ song “All You Need is Love.”

Carla, who is married to former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, seemed to be making a comparison between Meghan’s role in Harry’s life and Yoko’s relationship with John Lennon, which has often been viewed as a factor in The Beatles’ dissolution.

While some lauded her post, others criticized it as ‘racist’ for comparing the two women of color and their perceived influence over their husbands.

Like Meghan, Yoko was an actress who moved to the UK to marry into a prestigious British institution but eventually left for the US after a tumultuous split.

Some critics today argue that the notion of Yoko ensnaring John Lennon and intentionally causing the breakup of the legendary band stems from a narrative rooted in sexism and racism.
