DeVille’s love for music began at a young age, sparked by watching the Beatles perform on “The Ed Sullivan Show”. He received a guitar from his parents and drew inspiration from various rock bands including Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, The Who, and Kiss.
At 18, DeVille joined the band Lace in Brooklyn and began performing locally. He also pursued music theory studies at New York University but dropped out to focus on a music career. In 1981, he moved to Los Angeles and joined several bands, including St James, Lace Slip, Screaming Mimi, and Roxx Regime, gradually building his music career and wealth.
DeVille auditioned for Poison and won the position of their lead guitarist over Slash. The band’s debut album, “Look What the Cat Dragged In” in 1986, with the hit song “Talk Dirty to Me”, brought them immense success, contributing to DeVille’s growing net worth.
Poison’s subsequent albums, “Open Up and Say…Ahh!” in 1988 and “Flesh and Blood” in 1990, were also highly successful, solidifying the band’s position in the rock music industry.
However, DeVille faced a setback when he had a falling out with the band in 1991, leading to his temporary exit. He later formed his own band, Samantha 7, before reconnecting with Poison.
Besides his music career, DeVille briefly appeared on the reality show “The Surreal Life” during its sixth season.
DeVille remains an active member of Poison, with the band still performing and touring regularly.
On the personal side, DeVille and his girlfriend Shannon Malone have a son named Vallon Deville Johannesson.
