Burnley secures Championship Title and Promotion to Premier League

Burnley wins Championship title after earning promotion to Premier League

Burnley achieved victory in the Championship title on Tuesday evening, April 25, with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph against Blackburn Rovers.

Manuel Benson’s 66th-minute goal secured the points for Burnley, who had previously secured promotion to the Premier League.

With only two games left in the season, they have amassed 95 points, a lead of 13 over Sheffield United who have the opportunity to secure promotion on Wednesday, April 26.

The Clarets made an immediate return to the Premier League earlier this month by defeating Middlesbrough, and have now also secured the top spot in the division.

The club’s coach Vincent Kompany commented on the win, stating;

“I’m not sure if the lads realize it. I think J-Rod [Jay Rodriguez] does. He understands the significance of winning the league at Ewood Park for the people of Burnley. You couldn’t have scripted it.

“Even the game’s scenario. After everyone has been talking about our ball possession skills, today we demonstrated our prowess defensively, winning challenges, securing second balls, handling crosses, and everything else. I’m also proud of this aspect of the team.

“It’s a day that will remain with us forever and a tremendous achievement by the lads. There are two accolades you achieve this season—promotion and the league title, and then there are two more trophies to win, your two derbies. We’ve won all four this season. I understand what those games have meant for me in my career.

“We’ve created enduring memories. No one can take that away from us. We won the league at Ewood Park.”
