The funeral of the Brazil legend, Pele, will be held at Santos stadium on January 2nd and 3rd. The Brazilian club announced that fans will be able to pay their final respects to the football legend during this time.
The funeral will take place inside the Santos stadium on Monday, January 2nd and Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023. His body will be transferred from the Albert Einstein Hospital to Estádio Urbano Caldeira in Vila Belmiro at dawn on Monday, where the coffin will be placed in the center of the pitch. The public wake is expected to commence at 10am.
Following the public wake, the ceremony will continue until 10am on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, when a parade will take place through the streets of Santos.
Pele, whose full name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, passed away at the age of 82 after battling cancer. His daughter, Kely Nascimento, confirmed his passing on social media and paid tribute to him.
During his illustrious playing career, Pele scored a remarkable 1,282 goals in 1,366 games, including 77 goals in 92 appearances for Brazil. He led Brazil to World Cup victory in 1958, 1962, and 1970, and he remains one of the team’s all-time leading scorers with 77 goals.
