Deontay Wilder, the boxer, got arrested during a routine traffic stop in Los Angeles on May 2.
According to TMZ, security operatives pulled Wilder over in Hollywood at approximately 1:15 AM for illegally tinted windows and an obstructed license plate on his Rolls-Royce.
During the stop, law enforcement officers detected the smell of burnt marijuana emanating from Wilder’s vehicle. Subsequently, they found weed and a 9mm gun, leading to Wilder’s arrest. Reportedly, Wilder was cooperative and pleasant throughout the entire process.
The 37-year-old boxer was booked on a charge of possession of a concealed weapon and was released on bond at 6:34 AM, according to jail records.
Wilder, known for his 42 knockouts, has been rumored to be Anthony Joshua’s next opponent in a heavyweight superfight anticipated for 2023. It is uncertain whether Tuesday’s arrest will affect the fight negotiations.
