Bellarine St, Geelong: Man arrested after 73yo woman stabbed

An elderly woman was rushed to hospital after she was allegedly stabbed multiple times on her walk home.

Police said the 73-year-old had left a family member’s house and was walking home on Mundy St in Geelong, southwest of Melbourne, about 7pm on Tuesday.

When the woman reached the intersection of Bellarine St, a man allegedly came up behind her and stabbed her several times before leaving.

The woman managed to seek assistance from a nearby home and was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

A police spokesperson said the 73-year-old remained in hospital on Wednesday morning.

In the wake of the frightening attack, investigators arrested a man in South Geelong on Tuesday.

A 32-year-old remains in custody and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Police told 3AW hosts Ross and Russel investigators believed the man was not connected to the family member’s household.
