Austin Jay Jay Okocha, the former captain of the Super Eagles, has openly expressed his preference for watching European leagues over the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
While participating in the English Premier League trophy tour in Nairobi, Kenya, Okocha made this admission.
The ex-Bolton Wanders midfielder believes that the NPFL needs to elevate its standard in order to attract high-quality sponsors.
He called upon the NPFL board to learn from European leagues and make necessary improvements.
“To be honest, if there is a Premier League match on TV, I would choose to watch that rather than the Nigerian League because the Premier League is more appealing,” Okocha stated.
“We need to start from scratch and give ourselves sufficient time to create something that will make our leagues more enticing.”
