A young boy in Akwa Ibom, accused of being a witch, was saved by Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Lovén and her team after his father attempted to kill him. The boy had been hiding in the bushes for several months to escape his father.
“A week ago, Land of Hope Director of Child Development Nsidibe Orok received an emergency call to rescue a child in a local community,” she revealed. “A little boy was accused of being a witch and the father had tried to kill him by cutting him on the head with a machete.”
Upon arriving at the village, Orok found the boy hiding in the bushes. He had been living there for months, surviving with the help of a compassionate elderly woman who provided him with food occasionally despite not being related to him.
The boy, named Samuel, had been subjected to severe abuse by his father and stepmother following the death of his mother. However, he is now safe at Land of Hope, where he has begun to experience love and care, despite still being traumatized.
