New mugshots of the individual accused of killing five people in a Colorado Springs LGBTQ nightclub show them covered in bruises from the rampage. The photos were released on Wednesday, Nov. 23, following their visibly dazed appearance in court.
Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, who identifies as nonbinary and uses the pronouns they/them, was seen with bruises on their face and neck in the mugshots after being subdued by two bystanders during the alleged attack at a Colorado Springs LGBTQ nightclub on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Aldrich, ordered to be held without bond at their first court appearance on Wednesday, Nov. 23, appeared dazed during the video hearing, with their head slumped and resting on their shoulder, giving the impression of being asleep.
“Could the defendant please state his name?” asked Judge Charlotte Ankeny.
“Anderson Aldrich,” he weakly replied.
Aldrich, who appeared bloodied and bruised, sat nearly motionless during the five-minute hearing and only spoke when prompted by two public defenders at their side in El Paso County Jail.
“Anderson Aldrich, did you watch the video concerning your constitutional rights in this case?” the judge asked.
“Yes,” Aldrich replied in a whisper after a lengthy pause.
Aldrich will likely face murder and hate-crime charges, although formal charges have yet to be filed.
The suspect is accused of entering Club Q just before midnight on Saturday and opening fire, resulting in five deaths and more than a dozen injuries.
The alleged shooter’s rampage came to an end when they were tackled by two individuals in the club, disarmed, and held until the arrival of law enforcement.
