Alisson Becker: Onana’s Path to Success at Man Utd Requires Patience

According to Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, Andre Onana needs to exercise patience in order to adapt to life at Manchester United and eventually succeed.

Following his £47.2 million move from Inter Milan to Man United in the summer, Onana has faced challenges in living up to the significant price tag, resulting in some errors during his time at the Premier League club.

Becker, who made a similar transition from AS Roma to Liverpool five-and-a-half years ago, emphasized the need for Onana to remain patient amidst the changes and challenges.

Sharing his thoughts on Onana’s capabilities, Becker remarked, “He’s a really good goalkeeper. The Champions League performance he delivered last season was truly amazing.”

Explaining Onana’s struggles at Man United, Becker highlighted his own fortunate circumstances in joining a team that was already in a favorable state of progression. He advised Onana, stating, “He needs to be patient and handle everything that’s happening in his life in the best possible way.”

“At this juncture, I reckon he needs the support of everyone, and I believe he will overcome this,” Becker added, drawing parallels to his own experience of joining a big club from an Italian side, assuming a high level of responsibility.

Concluding with insight into the expectations faced by Onana, Becker added, “This is a significant burden on one’s shoulders, coming to a big club for a substantial sum of money. He arrived with the responsibility of replacing De Gea, who may not have been at his career’s peak, but was still delivering.”
