South Africa has included Ime Okon, a Nigerian-born defender, in their 50-man provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Hugo Broos, the head coach of Bafana Bafana, revealed the roster on Thursday, with the final squad of 27 players to be confirmed by January 7, 2024. Okon, born to a Nigerian father, is among the 18 defenders in consideration. He has previously received two invitations from South Africa but has yet to make his debut for the team despite his impressive performances with Super Sport United, a South African club. The 19-year-old will aim to make an impact as South Africa competes in Group E against Tunisia, Mali, and Zambia at the 2023 AFCON.
