It has been reaffirmed by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke that President Bola Tinubu would never back the looting of public assets.
He made this statement in response to the allegations put forth by the Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the recently released White Paper.
Leaders of the APC in the state had urged President Bola Tinubu and security agencies to intervene and save the state from what they termed the anarchical control of Governor Adeleke and his ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Recall that on January 18, 2024, the Osun State Government issued a White Paper on traditional rulers and called for the recovery of public assets allegedly taken by political appointees under the Adegboyega Oyetola administration.
According to Governor Adeleke, as stated by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, “The President has consistently praised me for rectifying the mess I found in Osun, stressing that President Tinubu detests the looting of public assets.”
“I have had several interactions with President Tinubu, and I am aware that he acknowledges my efforts in rectifying the numerous messes I encountered in Osun.
“From the President’s actions, it is clear that he upholds due process and, therefore, would never condone the looting of public assets. It is unfortunate that the Osun APC is now displaying behaviors that go against the President’s governance style.”
“Moreover, at the beginning of our administration, I established an Asset Recovery Committee and alerted most individuals with government properties to the necessity of their return.”
“I am now acting on the committee’s report, as demanded by the citizens of the state.”
Asserting that he has been governing the state without any partisan affiliation, Governor Adeleke disclosed that he had not taken any political adversaries to anti-graft agencies even when there were clear grounds to do so.
While urging the appointees of the previous administration in the state to return all government properties in their possession, Adeleke cautioned that his administration would spare no effort in recovering all looted government assets.
