Actress from Nickelodeon, Jennette McCurdy, has disclosed that her late mother used to bathe her until she reached the age of ‘17 or 18’.
The 31-year-old former child actress alleged that she did not bathe alone until her mother Debra McCurdy started battling cancer. Debra passed away from the disease at the age of 56 in 2013.
In a recent interview, Jennette revealed that her mother would stay clothed while ‘shampooing and conditioning’ her hair and ‘washing [her] body’. Additionally, her mother would also conduct breast and private parts examinations to check for any signs of disease.
On The Louis Theroux Podcast, she explained, ‘She would give me breast and vaginal exams in the shower and said that she was checking for lumps – she was just checking for cancer.’
Jennette expressed that these experiences left her feeling ‘uncomfortable’. When she raised the issue, her mother became ‘hysterical’.
This is not the first time the former child star has made distressing claims about her late mother.
During her appearance on Red Table Talk in September, she read a passage from her tell-all memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, which highlighted that Debra made her and one of her older brothers shower together until she was 11.
She shared, ‘[My brother is] almost 16 at this point. I get really embarrassed when she showers us together.
‘I can tell he does too… Scotty asked if he could shower himself alone once.’
She continued, ‘Mum sobbed and said she didn’t want him to grow up so he never asked again after that.’
When asked by host Jada Pinkett Smith, 51, whether these experiences influenced her current relationship with her siblings, Jennette mentioned that she is still ‘close’ with the three of them.
She added, ‘They have been a source of love and consistency in my life when there really wasn’t much anywhere else.
‘We have such a beautiful bond … because of the things we went through together and the things we saw together.’
