Jane Obi, an actress, has expressed her frustration regarding the misconception that the characters she portrays in films reflect her real-life personality.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, she shared, “Occasionally, when I am in long queues at banks or other establishments, someone may recognize me and praise my performances in films. Subsequently, they might suggest that I bypass the queue and promptly attend to my needs. While I appreciate the recognition, I am disheartened by the misconception that the roles I depict in movies define my true character.”
Addressing the belief that women find it more challenging to coexist harmoniously compared to men, Obi stated, “I believe women tend to be more disingenuous, as even when they harbor aversions towards each other, they maintain an outward facade and engage in clandestine gossip.”
“Men, on the other hand, are more open-minded. Furthermore, certain women may struggle to adapt to the sanitary practices of their counterparts due to hygiene considerations.”
The actress also admitted that there are instances when she inadvertently overlooks her celebrity status, requiring those around her to remind her. She remarked, “There are times when I venture out without my wig and makeup. However, those in my vicinity often encourage me to maintain a glamorous appearance at all times. Yet, I am a down-to-earth individual who revels in life’s simple pleasures.”
