About Mohamed & Mariama Diaby: The Parents of Yaya Diaby

Mohamed and Mariama Diaby, Yaya Diaby’s parents, had envisioned a future for their son in basketball rather than football. Originally hailing from Guinea in West Africa, Mariama, like any NFL mother, winces as she watches her son being tackled, and this led her to encourage Yaya to pursue basketball instead.

Despite his family’s wishes, Yaya was determined to pursue his passion for football, which had been with him since a young age. His path to the NFL was not an easy one, as he received no college offers initially and had to wait a year before eventually joining Georgia Military College. After a season there, he moved on to play for Louisville and is now making his mark in the NFL alongside players like Baker Mayfield and Tristan Wirfs. Yaya believes that everyone’s journey is unique and hopes his success story will inspire young people.
