Joshua Harris was born into a Jewish family and grew up in Chevy Chase, attending The Field School in Washington D.C. Later, he pursued his education at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. During his college years, Harris excelled in wrestling, triathlon, and marathon. Though he once pondered a political career as a Republican, he ultimately decided to focus on the private sector.
Harris began his career at Drexel Burnham Lambert, a major Wall Street investment banking firm. Following its bankruptcy, Harris, Leon Black, and Marc Rowan founded Apollo Global Management in 1990. Since then, he has been one of the managing partners of Apollo.
In 2011, he was part of the investment group that acquired the Philadelphia 76ers team in the National Basketball Association for $280 million. Alongside Harris, other investors included Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith, James Lassiter, Michael Rubin, Marc Leder, David S. Blitzer, Art Wrubel, Adam Aron, and Jason Levien.
