Gary Rich Burghoff, born in Bristol, Connecticut on 24th May 1943, gained fame for his role as ‘Radar’ O’Reilly in the popular TV series “M.A.S.H.” He had a successful career in the American film industry and theater from 1967 to 2010.
Despite his childhood struggle with a congenital deformity in three fingers of his left hand, Gary pursued his passion for music and dance. He started his acting career in high school and found early success with the play “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” in 1967. He also played as a drummer for the band “The Relatives” alongside actress Lynda Carter.
He gained widespread recognition for his role as Radar O’Reilly in the television series and movie “M*A*S*H” and received six Emmy nominations, winning one in 1977 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, which was accepted by Alan Alda on his behalf.
Burghoff’s prominence on television also extended to other shows such as “Tattletales”, “Showoffs”, “Hollywood Squares”, and “The New Adventures Of Wonder Woman”. Furthermore, he played alongside Joanna Cameron, Peter Kastner, and Louise Sorel in the movie “B.S. I Love You”.
