An advisory from Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, a leading figure in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizes that it is premature for politicians to divert President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s attention with aspirations for the 2027 presidential race.
Mumuni urges politicians to refrain from diverting Tinubu’s focus with what he labels as a political sideshow at this point in time.
In a statement released on Tuesday through his Media Aide, Rasheed Abubakar, Mumuni made these declarations.
According to reports, a group called the Forum of 2023 APC Presidential Candidates, with former Zamfara governor Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima as the lead, was inaugurated in Abuja on Monday.
Yerima, the Convener/Acting Chairman of the forum, articulated that the primary objective of the group was to prepare the ground for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prospective second term bid in 2027.
However, in response, Mumuni cautioned politicians nationwide against distracting the president with such intentions.
Asserting that the country does not currently require a 2027 agenda, Mumuni cautioned politicians to steer clear of this notion.
He expressed disappointment that some politicians are already pushing for the president to embark on a second term less than a year into his current tenure.
Mumuni stated, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has already shifted his focus from the 2023 election. It is evident that he is now deeply involved in governance and delivering on his pledge to restore hope to the masses. We are aware of the immense demands of all these responsibilities; as such, the President should not be encumbered by political maneuvering at this critical juncture of our nation’s development.”
“It is too early to be establishing a forum for 2027 politics. We are well aware that this is merely a façade by the former presidential aspirants to gain personal favor from the President. They should not divert his attention. If they genuinely uphold patriotism, they should support President Tinubu’s initiatives by contributing to the progress of their respective states and making a positive impact on people’s lives.
“It is ludicrous that those in need of guidance are attempting to assume advisory roles for the President. All of this amounts to a political sideshow. This is not what our beloved country needs at present. The President already has a sufficient number of advisors within his administration.
“The former presidential aspirants would be better off reflecting on the deficiencies across various sectors in the country and assuming the role of statesmen to address them. They can achieve this without causing a commotion. We have non-political figures making significant contributions to our country and its citizens.
“I am anxious that if this sideshow is entertained, we may start witnessing associations of former ministers, former special assistants, and former individuals from various positions attempting to gain access to the Aso Villa under the guise of providing advisory services.”
