Despite keeping a low profile in his personal life, Wink openly demonstrates his deep love and dedication to his family. Known for his role as a National Football League (NFL) defensive coordinator, Martindale has held various coaching positions in both college and professional settings throughout his career.

He gained significant recognition for his work as the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, whose defense became a dominant force in the league, ultimately winning Super Bowl XLVII. Before joining the Ravens, Martindale had coaching roles with six different NFL teams and also gained experience coaching at the college level.

Although Martindale prefers to keep his personal life private, he once made a lighthearted comparison between his relationship with his wife and speculations about potential conflicts with head coach Brian Daboll. When asked about possible issues with Daboll, Martindale humorously remarked, “I don’t always see eye-to-eye with my wife.” In a more serious tone, the Ohio-native emphasized his professional commitment, stating,

“He’s the head coach, and it’s my job to carry out his vision. That’s exactly what I’m going to do.”

Resignation as Defensive Coordinator for the Giants

The New York Giants are in search of a new defensive coordinator following the resignation of Don “Wink” Martindale in 2024. Martindale, who initially joined the Giants’ coaching staff in 2022 after serving as the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive coordinator, will be parting ways with the team.

His appointment was facilitated by head coach Brian Daboll, who had previously expressed his expectation of Martindale remaining as the defensive coordinator for the 2018 season. However, circumstances changed, prompting the Giants to reconsider their defensive plans. Following a disappointing second season under Daboll’s leadership, the Giants’ coaching staff will undergo significant changes. The team’s immediate priority is to hire a new defensive coordinator who aligns with Daboll’s vision for the upcoming seasons.
