Hospital patient, 72, arrested on suspicion of attempted manslaughter for switching off her roommate

After allegedly turning off her roommate’s ventilator due to the noise it produced, a 72-year-old woman has been apprehended by authorities in Germany.

On Tuesday evening, November 29, the woman was detained on suspicion of attempted manslaughter following the incident at a hospital in Mannheim.

The suspect is accused of deactivating a 79-year-old woman’s ventilator, despite being advised by staff of its necessity, and repeating the action later in the evening, according to police and prosecutors.

While the older patient’s life is not at risk, she remains in intensive care after being resuscitated, authorities have stated.

According to police and prosecutors, the 79-year-old neighbor was reliant on the oxygen supply due to being bed-bound.

The suspect appeared before a judge on Wednesday and was subsequently incarcerated. The details of the medical condition that prompted the elderly woman’s ventilator disconnection remain unclear.
