Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, has given the green light for over N708 million to be allocated for the payment of benefits to 461 retirees across the state. According to Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs for Buni, the approval was granted following the successful screening of the third batch of pensioners in the 17 local government councils of the state. The benefits will be directly deposited into the retirees’ accounts, while deceased retirees will receive payment through their next of kin.
“The payment will undoubtedly support the retirees’ livelihood, especially in ensuring a decent retirement life,” said Mohammed. Buni had previously raised the monthly standing payment of gratuities from N100 million to N200 million in November 2023. This was intended to cover more beneficiaries every month and ensure timely payment of benefits to retired workers in the state to support their lives in retirement,” he added.
