A video capturing the arrest of 21-year-old University of Alabama basketball star, Darius Miles, shows him in tears after being apprehended for the shooting death of a young woman in the vicinity of the Tuscaloosa campus, Alabama, USA on Sunday, January 15.

Miles and a 20-year-old, Michael Lynn Davis, were taken into custody for allegedly firing shots at a car near the campus area known as “The Strip” at around 1:45 a.m., as reported by the local ABC News affiliate station.

One of the individuals in the car, 23-year-old Jamea Jonae Harris, succumbed to her injuries after being struck by a bullet, according to the police.

One of the suspects was also hit by gunfire and sustained injuries when occupants of the other vehicle returned fire, with the identity of the wounded suspect remaining unclear.

Investigators believe that the two groups had engaged in a minor altercation along The Strip before the shooting ensued.

Miles, who hails from Washington DC, is a junior at the University of Alabama, playing as a forward for the school’s basketball team. He was sidelined during the team’s recent game against Louisiana State University due to an ankle injury.

Following the news of his arrest in connection with the killing, the university released a statement confirming Miles’ dismissal from the basketball team. Miles remains removed from the campus and is no longer affiliated with the Alabama men’s basketball team, according to the university.

The university clarified that neither Harris nor Davis had any association with the institution.
